Description:

Supposedly 'Only the highest quality electric bike kits'. They sell a 36v 500watt brushless hub motor for electric bicycle conversion. The kit can go in either the front or rear wheel. They have a few accessories. It's supposed to be very high quality.

Re: Amped Bikes

Sounds like the Below poster could not figure out to turn the motor around hahaha.
I see the same thing daily!! I work at a bike shop in South Fla often times customers bring in electric kits and
cannot install them. I have seen some dooseys..

If you are mechanically declined as the below poster says you should take it to a bicycle shop.

BTW it really did not occur to you to turn the motor around??????

I have yet to do an amped kit for a customer but plenty of Crystallytes

Re: Amped Bikes

I own 3 amped kits two are the new direct drive with disk brake adapter.I have dealt with amped directly on three different occasions and all I can say is that I read the instructions and it took me about 2 hours for my first install then an hour for my other two. It completely blows me away to see a negative post about them I guess if you are mechanically (declined) it would pose a problem

Ampedbikes - BUYER BEWARE - Terrible Business Ethics

I feel compelled to post my experience with this company so no one else has to go through what me and my wife went through recently.

My wife and I went out of our way to buy from Danny and Ampedbikes after some initial conversations. They sold us thousands of dollars worth of old stock(to resell). They convinced us that what we were getting was high-quality and the best for our needs. Some of the motors were rusty and some actually spun backwards when installed.

We called to discuss and the owner Danny was completely unprofessional(wife in the background urging him to not divulge too much information). He did nothing but make excuses and tell us this was our own fault! He slammed his competition on the phone and went on wildly about dealing with personal problems the company was having saying he may need to sell property to stay in business!

This was a horrible experience for us and we feel completely ripped-off. We won't likely get our money back but maybe we can help others avoid a similar situation.

I would urge anyone considering doing business with this small and unorganized "company" to think twice.

BUYER BEWARE of Ampedbikes

Re: Ampedbikes - BUYER BEWARE - Terrible Business Ethics

LOL- if your motor is running backwards it means your wheel is on backwards. You just need to flip it so the wires are on the other side. I bet your kit(s) work fine take them to a bike shop and have them install.

I have dealt with Amped a few times and while Danny can be a bit hot headed I have found him to be an honest businessman. I doubt we are getting the full story here.

Re: Amped Bikes

I have 3 ebike kits, all fom different manufacturers. I have the amped bikes rear kit and compared to my other kits, its quality is similar, which isn't positive. Most of the components are the same, except with small cosmetic differences. All 3 of my kits use the same brakes, made by the same manufacturer, except the tips of the levers are different. Controllers are from the same maker too, except my amped bikes controller is the largest in size, bigger than my front hub motor that is rated at 36v 680w.

The thumb/twist throttle isn't as comfortable to use as a half grip twist throttle. Since the thumb lever is sticking out, it's easier to break off since you can apply more toque on just the lever as opposed to having a half twist grip. My 3rd kit has a full twist throttle grip which I hate.

The wiring and connectors are cheap brittle parts, not that I've broken any, but they are all about the same. The 5 speed freewheel that came with the kit is complete junk. It appears brand new but sounds like its missing a few bearings. The motor itself is as quiet as my other kits. It runs smooth and hasn't had any issues with running hot. The only issue I had was more with the wheel, which wasn't dished properly. It was dished by amped, bikes, and I noticed that some of the spokes were sticking up in the wheel where they used a single layer of electric tape around the rim. Unfortunately the wheel needed to be dished further as it was not centered by mounting surfaces, which meant that those spokes that were sticking up had to come up further. So I ended up dishing the wheel further and filing down the spokes.

The price for the amped bikes kit was a few bucks more than several other kits out there. I figured it'd be better than the kits I had already, but unfortunately its no better, and the issue I had with the dishing can't be compared to my other kits which are front and mid drive and were easier to get going.

Looks like a lot of other kit sellers are dropping their prices, some even including the batteries for free, which saves you ~$100.

Conclusion: The amped bikes rear hub kit is no better or worse than its competitors. Their dishing job is probably worse, but not their kit. This is mainly because they all come from the same shops in China and unfortunately the same quality. Anyone wanting their own bike kit brand can order the individual components from China and stamp their log on it. For a starter kit, I'd recommend you purchase a kit on ebay from China for ~200. It may take a few weeks to arrive, but you get the same stuff for half the cost. All the kits are made in China. None of these guys are engineers, scientists, or know how these motors are made. They just order premade components and package them together.

Re: Amped Bikes

Ampedbikes carries excellent easy to install conversion kits. I commute to work 23 miles each way daily. I average about 22 mph.

I also cannot say enough about this company. Great people and the best e-bike conversion on the market. I own 2 other conversions and the amped kit is the best by far.
