An attempt to gather the expertise of many to design low cost battery solutions for Electric Vehicles and Hybrids. The primary goal will be to design car sized batteries using cheap off the shelf cells such as Lithium Ion or Nickel Metal Hydride. It addition a suitable charger/battery management system needs to be designed that can charge and maintain these packs. We feel that inexpensive DIY batteries of this type will give home built EV and Hybrid vehicles greater range and provide more options for the builders.

It is the goal of the OScar Project to develop a car according to Open Source principles. In our opinion, a car is not a vehicle full of high-tech gadgets. Instead, we are looking for a simple and functional concept to spread mobility. Form follows function.

Apart from that, OScar is not just a car. It is about new ways of mobility and the spreading of the Open Source idea in the real (physical) world.

Some kind of open source car design. The website is horribly designed (flash only) so I've given up trying to figure out what this is. There was an autobloggreen blog entry (also linked) saying a bit more.

OSGV, as a public charitable organization, will maintain ownership of the resulting platform and ensure that it is used for the good of mankind. Our open-design license agreement also incentivize capitalization of private investments - bringing together the best of both worlds: non-profits/individuals with an environmental focus and for-profit entities with the latest fuel-saving technologies.
