For years car makers have been putting computerized control systems in our cars. This gives more control over how the cars function, gives service shops more data with which to diagnose problems, etc. But it isn't readily accessible to the end user, hence isn't readably usable. Or, is it?

Enter, the Car Chip. This gadget plugs into your car and is a data-logger recording a bunch of data from the cars computer.

With CarChipE/X, though, youll also be able to monitor any four out of 23 user-selectable engine parameters, including:

It requires use of a Windows computer with a USB port. As a Mac user that means I probably won't be buying one soon. An interesting thing is that if you're in an accident, it will automatically generate an "accident log" showing the "last critical 20 seconds of speed". Hmmm... black box for the car anyone?
